Horse Jockey Dean Holland Dies At 34 After Fall From Horse During Race

Tragedy has struck the horse racing world after jockey Dean Holland was involved in a horrible accident at Donald Racecourse in Victoria, Australia on Monday.

Holland was riding in the opening race when he and another rider were thrown from their horses. Holland was airlifted to Melbourne where he ultimately passed away due to his injuries.

He was only 34 years old.

The other rider and the horses did not suffer significant injuries in the freak accident.

“On behalf of the Victorian racing industry, I would like to extend our prayers and heartfelt condolences to Dean’s partner Lucy, his children, his family, friends, and colleagues on the incredibly sad news of his passing,” Racing Victoria executive Andrew Jones said in a statement.

“It was a tragic accident at Donald today and we are all are deeply shocked and saddened that Dean has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the fall.”Holland, who was a father of four children, racked up over 1,000 wins in his 15+ year career.
