Woody Harrelson upset the Twitter mob with his COVID vaccine joke on Saturday Night Live this week.

While opening up the show, Harrelson began talking about smoking a joint against a tree in Central Park while reading the “craziest script” ever that was simply unfathomable. What made the dream so crazy?

“So the movie goes like this: The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes,” Harrelson joked. “And people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over.

“I threw the script away. I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day.”

Sure, it wasn’t the most sophisticated joke, but it was funny and shows how crazy the world became during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you would have told anyone on earth that major cities in the United States would completely shut down for nearly a year due to a virus, the person would have looked at you like you were crazy. But it happened, and people were stuck in their homes. Even today, there are some parts of the country that are struggling to be fully operational.

Of course, some people on Twitter took offense to Harrelson’s opening monologue — like they tend to do with everyone — and began flexing their Twitter fingers to air their grievances. Who would have guessed that calling out Big Pharma is a bad thing?

Here is a look at some of the backlash:

In the end, maybe Harrelson was right.
