A bantamweight championship bout between current titleholder Aljamain Sterling and former two-division champion Henry Cejudo is being targeted.

According to a report from MMA Fighting, the UFC is targeting the title fight for the upcoming UFC 287 pay-per-view which is set to take place on April 8. Sterling is currently rehabbing a torn bicep but is expected to be cleared in time for the April date.

A location and venue for UFC 287 has yet to be announced.

Cejudo, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist who retired as the flyweight and bantamweight champion, has been teasing a return to MMA. Cejudo (16-2) has not fought since 2020 when he defended the bantamweight title against former champion Dominick Cruz. He abruptly retired and relinquished the title just two weeks later.

Now, he is planning to return and reclaim the title that he never lost.

Sterling (22-3), meanwhile, is on an 8-fight winning streak and has two consecutive title defenses against former champions Petr Yan and TJ Dillashaw.
