Harry Kane’s status for England’s upcoming clash against the United States men’s national team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup has been a hot topic of discussion throughout the week, but now we are getting some clarity.
Ahead of Friday’s showdown, England coach Gareth Southgate said that the Three Lions’ striker should be available despite suffering a right ankle injury in England’s 6-2 trouncing of Iran on Monday.
The good news for England is that they can expect their star, who was the Golden Boot winner at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, to be on the field against the USMNT.
“He’s good, he’s worked a bit more individually but he’ll be back in with the team and good for the game,” Southgate said in an interview with British network ITV.
Southgate also clarified that Kane’s injury is more of a foot than an ankle issue.
In Three Lions’ World Cup opener, Kane recorded two assists.
England sits atop the Group B standings with three points after the win over Iran, while the USA has one point after a draw with Wales in their opener. The two teams will now battle for the group lead when they face off on Friday afternoon on FOX. Kickoff at Al Bayt Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
