David Gallagher, a recent Dartmouth College graduate and lacrosse star, died after a “freak accident” while visiting the school for his postponed commencement ceremony.
Gallagher was just 24 years old.
According to the Boston Globe, Gallagher was found badly injured on a rocky embankment under a bridge at 2 a.m. on Sunday. He was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
“It’s a very rocky, steep terrain,” said Hanover police Capt. James Martin. “It’s often inaccessible to walk in on foot from the roadway from Hanover.”
No foul play was suspected, but an investigation has been launched. Hanover police Lt. Michael Schibuola says that alcohol may have played a role in what Gallagher’s friend referred to as a “freak accident.”
