Henrik Stenson’s time as a Ryder Cup captain was short-lived.
With reports that a move to LIV Golf is looming, Ryder Cup Europe stripped the 46-year-old of his Team Europe captaincy. Stenson was named the captain on Tuesday, March 15.
“In light of decisions made by Henrik in relation to his personal circumstances, it has become clear that he will not be able to fulfill certain contractual obligations to Ryder Cup Europe that he had committed to prior to his announcement as Captain on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, and it is therefore not possible for him to continue in the role of Captain,” Ryder Cup Europe said in a statement.

During five appearances in the Ryder Cup, Stenson helped Europe win three titles.
The Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour has been poaching some of the biggest stars in the sport with guaranteed, nine-figure contracts, and additional signings — including Stenson — are expected in the coming weeks.
