Rafael Nadal’s Wimbledon run is over.

After winning the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year, Nadal will fall just short of completing a calendar slam after withdrawing from his semifinal match against Nick Kyrgios due to injury.

Nadal announced at a Thursday press conference that he suffered an abdominal strain.

“It’s obvious that if I keep going, the injury is going to be worse and worse,” Nadal said told the media, via The Times. “I made my decision because I believe I can’t win two matches. I don’t want to go out there and not be competitive enough to play at the level I need to to achieve my goal.”

Nadal had reportedly tried modifying his service motion in practice, but the change caused Nadal to struggle with his accuracy.

With Nadal’s withdrawal, Kyrgios advances to this weekend’s final. The Australian firebrand will face the winner of tomorrow’s Novak Djokovic vs. Cameron Norrie semifinal.
