The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to pay-per-view this weekend with a championship doubleheader at UFC 275 in Singapore.
In the main event, light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira put his title on the line against hard-hitting contender Jiri Prochazka. In the co-main event, women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko defended her title against top contender Taila Santos.
With plenty of hype, the event exceeded expectations.
Leading up to the main event, Weili Zhang scored a Knockout of the Year contender over Joanna Jedrzejczyk to set the tone for the final two fights of the night. Jedrzejczyk announced her retirement after the loss.
When it came time for the women’s flyweight title bout, Santos gave Shevchenko her toughest title defense to date but ultimately came up short via split-decision after a five-round war. Then, Teixeira and Prochazka gave fans one of the most exciting title fights in UFC history that featured back-and-forth action with both fighters having opportunities to finish their opponents. Ultimately, it was Prochazka who stunned the mixed martial arts world with a submission win with just 28 seconds remaining in the fight to win the belt.
