PGA Tour Radio analyst Mark Lye found himself in some hot water over the weekend, and ultimately lost his job after making some wild comments about the WNBA on SiriusXM.

Lye was attempting to compliment women’s golf when he directed his attention to the WNBA and said he would rather shoot himself than watch professional women’s basketball.

Here are the remarks:

“You know, the LPGA Tour to me is a completely different tour than it was ten years ago…you couldn’t pay me to watch. I couldn’t relate, at all. It’s kind of like if you’re a basketball player, and I’m not trashing anybody. Please, don’t take it the wrong way. But I saw some highlights of ladies basketball. Man. Is there a gun in the house? I’ll shoot myself (rather than) watch that,” Lye said.

“You know I love watching the men’s basketball, I love watching the men’s golf, I never used to like watching ladies golf.”

Naturally, there was a lot of backlash and Lye was ultimately fired, according to GOLF.com.

The 69-year-old took to social media after the comments and attempted to defend himself, which ultimately just made things worse.

Remember, folks, freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequence.
