The Nevada Gaming Control Board did one Arizona man an incredible solid.
Robert Taylor was enjoying some time in Sin City when he decided to feed a little money into the slots. We’ve all been there, but Taylor ended up striking gold and hitting a $229,000 jackpot.
There is one problem: he had no idea.
According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), his machine at Treasure Island Resort & Casino malfunctioned. That left the NGCB scrambling to attempt to discover his identity.
Thanks to weeks of detective work and going through all of the details, Taylor was located and received his prize 20 days later.
From the NGCB press release:
Immediately after confirmation that the patron had won the jackpot, multiple attempts to identify the patron by the casino were unsuccessful. At that point, the Board initiated an extensive investigation, conducted by multiple agents of the Board’s Enforcement Division, to obtain the identity of the patron. The investigation included the review of multiple hours of surveillance footage across multiple gaming properties, numerous witness interviews, a study of electronic purchase records, and the analysis of rideshare data obtained the Nevada Transportation Authority and a rideshare company. The exhaustive investigation resulted in successfully identifying the patron as Robert Taylor.
Talk about a great surprise.
If I was ever lucky enough to win a $229,000 jackpot — $229,368.52 to be exact — this is how I would want it to happen. You go home thinking you burned through a few bucks you probably expected to lose anyway when you put it in the slot machine only to be given six figures almost three weeks later.
It doesn’t get much better than that.
