A horrific accident on the track during a horse race at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong over the weekend left three jockeys hospitalized with their injuries and two horses dead.
The race was a part of the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint when jockey Lyle Hewitson’s horse lost its footing before the backstretch and fell to the ground. As Hewitson was thrown from his horse, he and the horse were trampled by the rest of the field which caused a huge pile-up on the course.
You could see other horses and jockeys thrown to the ground amid the chaos.
Hewitson suffered a fractured hip and a small bleed in the brain, according to TMZ Sports. Zac Purton, who is a four-time Hong Kong champ, suffered four fractured ribs, a fractured wrist, and a broken nose, and Yuichi Fukunaga broke his collarbone.
Sadly, two of the horses on the track — Amazing Star and Naboo Attack — had to be euthanized due to their injuries.
