Facebook is going to change its name.
According to Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the tech company is going to undergo a major rebrand that will include changing one of the most recognizable names in social media. Zuck sees the rebrand as an opportunity for Facebook to “effectively transition[ing] from people seeing us as primarily being a social media company to being a metaverse company.”
Reports from The Verge indicate a name change could come by the end of the month, likely before or after Facebook’s annual Facebook Connect conference on October 28.
From the report:
“The coming name change, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to talk about at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th, but could unveil sooner, is meant to signal the tech giant’s ambition to be known for more than social media and all the ills that entail. The rebrand would likely position the blue Facebook app as one of many products under a parent company overseeing groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more. A spokesperson for Facebook declined to comment for this story.”
SportsBetting.ag listed odds for the name change which include:
- Virtuel 4-1
- Connect 5-1
- Horizon 5-1
- Ecoverse 7-1
- Metabook 8-1
- Immerse 8-1
- Omniverse 10-1
Who knows what the larger goal of the rebrand is or what exactly the “metaverse” will entail, but it’s clear that Facebook is trying to get a clean slate after years and years of countless scandals. Good luck with that.
