The Dallas Cowboys bye week came at the perfect time.

Following the team’s overtime win over the New England Patriots in Week 6, it was revealed that star quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a right calf strain on the final play of the game.

That caused some concern about the future availability of Prescott, but the good news is he will have an extra week to recover as the team enters its bye week. On Tuesday, owner Jerry Jones addressed the quarterback’s calf injury when he expressed optimism that Prescott will not be forced to miss any time because of the extra time to recover.

“The fact the bye is there my feeling is that ought to take care of it in terms of enough time for it to get to where he can really compete normally. I would be probably a little concerned if we were playing this week,” Jones said.

That’s great news for the Cowboys, who are 5-1 on the season and sitting in first place in the division. In fact, their five wins are equal to the number of wins by the Washington Football Team, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants combined.

And for Prescott, it allows him to avoid missing more game action due to injury.

This season, after recovering from a devastating ankle injury last year and a shoulder issue in the preseason, Prescott has found his stride with 1,813 yards through the air, 16 touchdowns, and just four interceptions.

When the Cowboys return to the field on Sunday, October 31, they will travel to Minnesota for a meeting with the Vikings.
