October baseball is finally here. The two Wild Card matchups in the 2021 MLB playoffs will feature heavyweight showdowns. The AL Wild Card will be decided between the greatest rivalry in baseball with the Red Sox and Yankees. The NL side will be determined by the greatest Wild Card team ever, the Dodgers and a surging Cardinals team.
Here’s a breakdown of the two Wild Card matchups.
AL Wild Card: Yankees vs. Red Sox
Oct. 5th, 8:08 p.m., ESPN
Starting Pitchers: Cole vs. Eovaldi
The MLB couldn’t; have asked for a better matchup to determine the AL Wild Card spot in the 2021 playoff spot. The greatest rivalry in baseball will occur once again when the Yankees and Red Sox meet on Tuesday. The Red Sox own the 2021 series at 10-9, with the Yankees winning the last six meetings.
Fenway Park will be electric, and you can bet the winning fanbase will have a lot to say.
NL Wild Card: Cardinals vs. Dodgers
Oct. 6th, 8:10 p.m., TBS
Starting Pitchers: Wainwright vs. Max Scherzer
The Los Angeles Dodgers would be a division winner in any other division except for the NL West. The Dodgers will be the third team in MLB history to play in a Wild Card game with 100 or more wins. Their prize will be playing the hottest team in the month of September, the St. Louis Cardinals. Losing in the Wild Card with 106 wins would feel like the ultimate failure, and one the Dodgers don’t plan to deal with it.
