Comedy Legend Norm Macdonald Dies At 61 After Private Battle With Cancer

Norm Macdonald, an influential comedic legend, has passed away at age 61.

On Tuesday, September 14, it was announced that the former Saturday Night star died following a private battle with cancer. Macdonald was reportedly battling cancer for nearly a decade, but only those in his close circle knew.

“He was most proud of his comedy,” Lori Jo Hoekstra, a producing partner who was with Macdonald when he passed away, confirmed to Deadline. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him.

“Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Our deepest condolences go out to Macdonald’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult and tragic time.
