Simone Biles Comments On Olympic Pressure After First Round Struggles

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - AUGUST 11, 2016: Olympic champion Simone Biles of United States competing on the balance beam at women's all-around gymnastics at Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Simone Biles, the United States gymnastics GOAT, surprisingly struggled in the qualifiers on Sunday, along with her USA teammates. Biles had a handful of unexpected errors, including an out-of-bounds landing after a tumbling pass on the floor routine and finishing seventh place in the balance beam.

Despite all of that, the Americans qualified in second place. Still, Biles is acknowledging there is some pressure entering the Olympics as the odds on favorite and it has led to the four-time gold medalist feeling the “weight of the world” on her shoulders.

“It wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it,” Biles wrote on Instagram. “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha! The Olympics is no joke!”

Team USA qualified in second-place just over one point behind the Russian Olympic Committee.

And, while she did struggle in qualifiers, Biles is still on track to bring home the goal after finishing first overall for the all-around competition.

You may be able to slow down greatness, but you can’t stop it.
