Jon Rahm has been forced to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics.
The 26-year-old Rahm, who is the No.1-ranked golfer in the world, was forced out of the Summer Games after testing positive for COVID-19. It is the second time in two months that the Spaniard has returned a positive test for the coronavirus.
“I would have loved to be the first Spanish Olympic gold medalist in golf, but unfortunately destiny has other plans,” Rahm said in a statement. “This is a great reminder for all of us that we’re still in a pandemic, things are not over, and we still need to fight together to get through this the best we can.”
Following the news of Rahm’s positive test, it was revealed that he will not be replaced on Spain’s Olympic golf team which leaves Adri Arnaus as the nation’s sole representative.
