Tokyo’s Olympic Village has reported its first positive case of COVID-19 with one week until the start of the Summer Games.
Japan is currently in a state of emergency which has led to fans being banned from attending the Tokyo Olympics, and now there are even more concerns being raised with the positive case in the same location where athletes will be staying.
More than 11,000 athletes and approximately 79,000 journalists will be calling Olympic Village home for the two-week duration of the Tokyo Olympics.
The positive case was from a non-Japan resident who is considered “games-concerned personnel,” according to TMZ Sports.

“I understand that there are still many worrying factors,” Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto said. “Organizers must try to make sure that people will understand that these games are safe and secure.
“We are sparing no efforts.”
Protestors have become more vocal with their all to cancel the games — which were originally scheduled for last summer but postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Olympics officially kick off on Friday, July 23, and will run through Sunday, August 8.
