The Team USA basketball team has canceled a Friday night exhibition game against Australia in Las Vegas due to COVID-19 protocols.

USA Basketball announced the decision late Friday after star guard Bradley Beal was placed in health and safety protocols earlier in the day. Beal will be forced to miss the Tokyo Olympics.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the USA Men’s National Team exhibition versus Australia on Friday has been canceled,” USA Basketball announced.

There is no word on whether Beal tested positive for the coronavirus or if he was simply in close contact with someone who did.

Jerami Grant was also placed in COVID-19 safety protocols, though he did not test positive, according to The Athletic.

With the Australia game canceled, Team USA’s final warm-up game before the Olympics is scheduled for Sunday night against Spain. The United States is favored to bring home the gold medal.

The Olympics officially kick off on Friday, July 23, and will run through Sunday, August 8.
