Barty attempted to return to the court for the second set, but ultimately the injury was too much and she was forced to retire due to injury with the set tied 2-2.

Earlier this week, No. 2 Naomi Osaka withdrew from the tournament after her highly publicized media blackout. Osaka, who did not want to speak to the media due to mental health reasons, was find $15,000 and threatened with disqualification if she did not end her media blackout before she made the decision to leave the tournament.

On Tuesday, No. 12 Petra Kvitova withdrew from the French Open due to an injury suffered at a press conference.
