Jon Jones still believes a fight with UFC heavyweight champion will happen.
The former light heavyweight titleholder has publicly asked for more money from the UFC in order to accept the fight, going as far as demanding more than the $8-$10 million range.
However, despite the contract issues and public negotiations, the fight should happen.
Jones recently discussed the potential bout in a sitdown with FightHype.com when he said, “I think it’s gonna happen. We just gotta stay focused and stay training and see what the UFC is going to do on their part. I think it’s gonna happen … I think the UFC will eventually do the right thing.
“I think this is one of the greatest fights of our generation and it would be really sad if it weren’t gonna happen. And I believe that it will.”
While we wait to see whether it actually does come to fruition, Jones is continuing to train like a madman for his highly-anticipated move to heavyweight.
With the possibility of a Jones bout looming, the oddsmakers have handicapped the match and shared opening betting odds for the potential bout.
According to Sportsbetting.ag, Ngannou opens at -190 with Jones at +165.
For those unfamiliar with how the moneyline works, Ngannou at -190 means you would have to wager $190 on the heavyweight champ in order to get a $100 return.
On the flip side, a $100 bet on Jones would return $165.
Now, let’s just hope the UFC decides to show Jon Jones the money.
