The Arizona basketball program is moving forward.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats announced that head coach Sean Miller has been fired as the fallout continues following the NCAA bribery scandal and investigation.
Arizona had previously self-imposed a postseason ban which was in effect this year. The program had received five Level 1 violations and Miller also received a Level 1 violation and a charge of lack of institutional control.
“Sean Miller met with both Arizona president Dr. Robert Robbins and AD Dave Heeke last night for more than an hour with no conclusion,” Jeff Goldman of Stadium wrote on Twitter. “Then met again this morning and decided to part ways with Miller, who is owed about $1.5 million.”
Goodman named three potential candidates for the vacancy incuding Pacific coach Damon Stoudamire, Lakers assistant/former Arizona assistant Miles Simon and Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner.
Gonzaga assistant Tommy Lloyd could also be a longshot.
Miller was surrounded by the controversy after longtime assistant Emanuel “Book” Richardson pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges.
