The Boston Red Sox have unveiled new uniforms that will be worn on Patriots Day Weekend.
Now, usually messing with tradition is always met with backlash, but this special edition “Nike City Connect” uniform has a special meaning.
The Red Sox new alternates are inspired by the Boston Marathon.
Across the front of the jersey, the “Boston” wordmark is stenciled to pay tribute to the Boylston Street finish line. The numbers “617” are highlighted on the sleeve within a racing bib.
“We viewed the City Connect collaboration with Nike as an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of a weekend that is uniquely Boston,” Red Sox EVP/CMO Adam Grossman said in a statement. “The departure from our traditional style pays homage to that iconic weekend, and recognizes Boston’s boldness, culture, and creativity.”
The uniforms will be work on April 17 and April 18 when the team plays the Chicago White Sox.
