Google is stepping up and joining a number of companies and tech giants that are attempting to help cool the rising temperatures in the political landscape ahead of Inauguration Day 2021.
This week, Google announced that it will be pausing all political ads until Inauguration Day following the deadly insurgence at the Capitol Building a week ago.
Google had previously paused political ads leading up to November’s election.
“Given the events of the past week, we will expand our sensitive event policy enforcement to temporarily pause all political ads in addition to any ads referencing impeachment, the inauguration, or protests at the US Capitol,” Google said in a statement obtained by Axios.
The ban will impact YouTube and Google Ads.
Facebook has previously blocked political ads while banning a number of accounts linked to the QAnon conspiracy theory.
Most recently, Airbnb announced it would block and cancel all reservations in the DC Metro area for inauguration week due to the growing threats of violence from dangerous groups that participated in last week’s insurgence.
