Trade, pending physical: Patriots are trading TE Rob Gronkowski and a seventh-round pick to the Buccaneers for a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN.

It’s really happening! Ever since Gronk‘s retirement, there have been rumors swirling about whether he would come back and try to win some more Super Bowls. Well, he did end up taking all of last season off and dropped about 100 pounds in the process:
Gronk slimmed wayyy down but he has also said that he is in the best shape of his life because of it. I’m sure he’ll bulk up some before he plays again but maybe he’ll utilize his athleticism more rather than being just a bulldozer of a human.
But the fact that this deal came together so fast is kind of crazy. The Patriots still owned Gronk’s rights but he decided he wanted to play with Tom in Tompa. I honestly had two different thoughts when I heard Gronk only wanted to come back to play with Tom. 1. If Gronk was going to stay retired rather than go to New England, it would be very Belichick-ian to want to get something in return for virtually nothing and trade Gronk’s rights. But on the other hand, I could also see Bill being spiteful and saying if we can’t have him, no one can. Obviously, Bill made the smart football choice and unloaded Gronk to get a fourth-round pick added to his arsenal for the draft.
I always thought part of the reason Gronk retired early was that he was done with ‘The Patriot Way.’ Gronk is a larger than life personality and he had to stifle a lot of it to fit how the Patriots like to do things, but he put up with it because he got to win championships with Tom Brady. So, I think once Tom left and Gronk saw he could play with Tom again, be able to still live the Gronk lifestyle, and be in Florida… it was a no brainer for him to make a return. Assuming the Bucs shore up their offensive line in the draft they will all the sudden have one of the best offenses in the entire NFL and be a serious contender. Brady to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Gronk, OJ Howard, and Cam Brate?? That’s terrifying if you’re a defensive player or coach in the NFL South.
As a Patriots hater, I can’t tell if I’m rooting for these guys to succeed in Tampa to make Patriots fans feel left out, or if my Brady hatred is too strong to ever root for him to succeed. What I do know for sure is that I’ll be rooting for tremendous content coming out from Gronk and his girlfriend Camille Kostek all year. That’s something we can all get behind.
