Former NHL player Matthew Barnaby was arrested this morning in Nashville for choking a bouncer at Nashville Crossroads bar in downtown Nashville, according to the crew at Scoop: Nashville and the Metro Nashville Police Department. Barnaby, who racked up 2,562 penalty minutes over his NHL career, was allegedly in an altercation that included his girlfriend and other bar patrons. He was booked into the city jail at 1 a.m.
According to Barnaby’s Twitter bio, the 14-year NHL vet was part of the SiriusXM NHL podcast at DeanBlundell.com, but Dean had this to say this morning about the arrest.
We started getting calls from Nashville news outlets this morning and I’m not going to sewer, my friend. I love Matthew but he’s a wildcard and I have to think there’s some serious soul searching going on right now. I’ve only been around Matthew sober. I love the guy but he had some issues a few months ago, so we parted ways. He’s a father and a friend to many and he’s sick. Pray for the cat before you judge him,
It’s been a long time since the days when Barnaby was dating Michelle Beadle and having other run-ins with the law. Way back in 2011 Barnaby was in trouble for (allegedly) harassing his ex-wife. It’s weird to think it’s been nearly a decade since Matthew and Beadle were together. Feels like yesterday. He had the ESPN analyst job and lost it over a DWI.
