Ohio Man Joe Burrow went to LSU and won a national title. Now a Kenny Powers-looking Ohio Man by the name of Cael Baker has Ole Miss fans whipped into a froth with his 6-foot, 260 (PLUS) frame mashing home runs (4 in 23 ABs) that have already turned the Junior College transfer into a cult icon in Oxford. Baker already has an SEC Player of the Week and a Golden Spikes Award as Ole Miss is off to a hot 6-1 start with its only loss coming on opening night to No. 1 Louisville.

Baker, who’s from Gahanna, Ohio, a northeastern suburb of Columbus, was back-to-back DI Ohio state player of the year his junior and senior seasons as a catcher before going to Cincinnati. Things there didn’t work out and he packed up for a year of Juco work in Illinois where he was named the Junior College player of the year before his transfer to Ole Miss.

And now here we are with the most interesting man in college baseball in Oxford, Mississippi, a town where he’ll become another Ohio Man turned into an icon as long as he keeps mashing. For example, take this mash against Louisville. Mash Town.

I don’t want to see Cael lose a single pound. I don’t want to see Cael Baker change anything about himself right now. Don’t cut the hair. Don’t shave the face. Be you, kid. Keep crushing and make college baseball real interesting by helping Ole Miss get to the College World Series. That’s your job this spring.
