Joy Taylor from FS1 unleashed the fastball last night at the Wilder-Ortiz fight at one of those old fashioned events in Las Vegas where, if you have a fastball, it’s time to let it fly because big time heavyweight title fights like this one don’t come around very often and fighters with knockout power like Deontay Wilder (42-0-1) are rare. Wilder knocked out Luis Ortiz and sets up what will be a cash cow in Wilder vs. Tyson Fury (29-0-1) in February.
Wilder’s punch came out of nowhere in a fight he had done little in up until that time. It landed flush on the face of Ortiz, who crumpled to the canvas and was unable to get up at the count of 10.
The sudden ending came after a lackluster first six rounds in which Wilder did little. But the devastating power that has gotten him knockouts in all but two of his fights came through again.
“I finally found my measurement and I took the shot,”’ Wilder said. “`I had to play around with him. I had to calculate certain moves.’”
Now Joy has some time to get the fastball ready for February 23 when Wilder-Fury could create an actual world champion in the heavyweight division and unify the division.
