Ole Miss Student Party Decks Look Very Different Than What Was Promised

Arkansas rolls into Oxford, Mississippi this Saturday for the big home opener for the Rebels and the big debut of the student section party decks that are supposed to “feature awnings for shade, televisions, charging stations, fans and pub tables along with plenty of space for students to socialize and watch the game. Each platform has a capacity of 100 students.”

Yeah, well someone got into Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and took pics of how those party decks are coming along this week and…something looks very different compared to the rendering (above) of what the decks are supposed to look like.

Now I’m not an expert on design, execution, that type of thing when it comes to football stadiums, but that sure doesn’t look like what Ole Miss was promising. It looks like the tents you see in the Grove just put into the stands. They really think those tents will be left standing after Ole Miss students get their hands on those posts? No way the tents survive Saturday’s SEC showdown.

Ahh, but there’s been a response TODAY from Ole Miss on the situation:

However, that plan was modified according to Michael Thompson, deputy athletic director for external relations and business.

“The physical decks that were advertised are no longer there,” he said recently. “On paper, the party decks seemed like a good idea, but when we saw them in person they didn’t make sense.”

After the decks were placed, Thompson said they realized the walls of the decks would obstruct the view of the game.

Ole Miss remodeled the original eight party decks to be one large tented area that will offer shade, televisions, charging stations, and cooling fans. Additionally, students will be able to enjoy concessions and a variety of collegiate football games on the televisions provided by the student party section.

Ole Miss just realized this like over the last couple weeks if not sooner AFTER THEY WERE BRAGGING about the changes coming on August 9.  Like the Ole Miss season — after a loss to Memphis — this appears to be one giant mess that’s going to need cleaned up at the end of the year, if not sooner.
