There are baseball moments and then there are baseball moments like what went down this week at a Kalamazoo Growlers game when Little Coach Drake made a mound visit in the third inning during a July 5 game against Kokomo. Make sure you watch the video of Coach Drake handling business like he’s Don Zimmer walking out there to settle the boys down, even though the Growlers had a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd.
The great managers can tell when they need to go out and have a word, even in the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate league made up of guys from all over the U.S. getting a taste of what it would be like to play in the minors. And deal with cut-from-steel old timers like Coach Drake.
Here’s Coach Drake in action:
The CUTEST mound visit ever. 🤣

As for the rest of the game, pitcher David Toth went 4 innings, gave up two hits and struck out four as the Growlers beat Kokomo 6-0. Looks like Coach Drake has his team right where he wants them in the Northwoods League. They’re a game and a half back of first place Traverse City, but you can just tell that Coach Drake does his best work when his team has to battle back from adversity.
