Bama Signee Evan Neal's Dad Might Not Be Feeling His Son's Decision

6-foot-8 391-pound offensive lineman Evan Neal made his college football choice today and he chose Alabama on ESPN with his mother and father by his side for the biggest moment of their son’s life. The decision came down to Florida, Miami, Georgia, Florida State and Alabama. And then dad had to sit there and watch as his son chose Nick Saban. It’s unclear if Mr. Neal was cool with that decision since his reaction had a couple of different elements that could mean a couple different things.
Now for the good stuff. Before attending IMG Academy, Neal lived in Okeechobee, Florida — 117 miles from Hard Rock Stadium. As of this summer, the Neal family was hoping Evan would chose Miami.

Evan Nealย knows it’s not exactly a secret where most of his family would like to see him wind up at the next level. The 5-star tackle grew up a Miami fan, has family which has played for the Hurricanes and grew up closer to Coral Gables than either of the other Big 3 Florida schools.
And, of course, his mother is a factor, too. Even from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Neal talks to his parents every night about his potential college decision. Almost very night, his mother makes her voice heard.
“If it was up to her,” Neal said Wednesday at IMG’s media day in Bradenton, “I’d already be committed to Miami.”

Life comes at you fast and Evan clearly thought it was time to break free from mom & dad. And the family. Keep in mind that Neal’s family has deep ties to the Canes.

Neal comes from an incredibly athletic family, including two of his uncles who starred at Miami: running back and former first-round pick Cleveland Gary and defensive tackle and two-time Super Bowl champion Jimmie Jones.

As for dad, Eddie Neal, he played linebacker at Tulane.
