What a week it’s turning into for the Florida International University women’s golf team. Wednesday we visited with Hannah Leiner, who spent the summer absolutely killing IG while working on her golf game and social skills. That post led to you guys sliding into my DMs and one guy said I had to post Gabriela Powel, a sophomore out of West Palm Beach. Gabriela is hovering in the 32,000 follower range and has some work to do if she’s going to catch Leiner’s runaway IG train.
From Powel’s FIU bio:
2017-18: Participated in three events… Season stroke average of 83.3… Season-high finish of T77 at the Hurricane Invitational… Season-low round of 79 twice at the Pat Bradley Invitational and Season-low tournament total of 248 at Pat Bradley Invitational…
The FIU golf team finished 3rd this week in its Pat Bradley Invitational. Leiner tied for 5th (-2) and Powel tied for 48th. The fall season ends next week with a trip…wait for it…to Hawaii for the ladies, with the final round being played on Halloween. I know, it must be a tough life for these ladies. Horrible conditions.
I think it was Monday when I said I wish my college years were spent at Arizona. Now I’m thinking those 5 years should’ve been spent at FIU even though I’m not sure the school even existed back in my college days. It’s like god all of a sudden said it was time to create a school for hot Florida golfers and BOOM…there was a university.
