This brutally violent act by the Panthers on Steelers QB Josh Dobbs drew a roughing the passer penalty. There’s simply no room in the sport for such gruesome violence. Please do not allow small children to watch this video. pic.twitter.com/5GGZUoKJRL

Here we go again with the Aaron Rodgers Rule. It happened Thursday night in the Panthers-Steelers game when Josh Dobbs was sacked and (I don’t agree with it, but this is what the ref is calling) was driven into the ground by the ref. I know, I know, I know…he’s finishing off a football move with no intent to hurt a third-string QB. The NFL is telling us over and over again that they’re going to protect its 4-year, $134 million men and the third stringers.
That’s why I’m suggesting you just take the OVER the entire season. Don’t be shocked when teams are scoring in the 50s on the regular. It’s coming.
Let’s go back to a couple weeks ago when I gave you guys the official wording of what is the Aaron Rodgers Rule:
“A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as ‘stuffing’ a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight.”
Again, you’re going to have to save your blood pressure from rising this year by understanding that defenses will have to pretty much grab a QB and not take him to the ground. That’s where we’re headed. You can’t get yourself too beat up if a guy gets a 15 yarder because this is the new NFL.
Like I’ve said, pray your team is able to get a very valuable QB because the more valuable QB, the more flags he’s going to earn. This is basic math from the NFL.
From earlier this preseason:
Folks – this was called roughing the passer. This is not the refs fault. The rules are off! What have they done to the game we love? #vikings pic.twitter.com/fIInp6VmQ2
