Phillies Fan Suffers Facial Injuries After Being Shot By Phanatic’s Hot Dog Cannon

|

Phillies fan Kathy McVay learned a valuable lesson while attending Monday night’s Cards-Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park: you must keep your head on a swivel when the Phanatic is firing hot dogs into the crowd. Don’t let that photo above fool you — the green weirdo is shooting out dogs wrapped in duct tape, which can leave a person with a black eye or worse.

Coming up at 4:30 and 6 on Action News- hear from this Phillies fan injured by a hot dog fired from the Phanatic’s hot dog cannon. The ⁦@Phillies⁩ say the mascot feels terrible about it. pic.twitter.com/2kXlPAX6V3

The details from ABC 6’s Sarah Bloomquist:

And then the next thing I know he shot it in our direction, and bam! It hit me like a ton of bricks. My glasses flew,” McVay said.

She told Action News she couldn’t catch it or swat it away because she has a shoulder injury that will require surgery this week.

On Monday night, she ended up in the emergency room for a CAT scan to make sure she didn’t suffer a concussion. She is black and blue and very sore. Her facial injury requires ice every 20 minutes.

She explained, “I have a small hematoma in my eye. And mostly, it’s going to get worse before it gets better. It’s going to go down the side of my face.”

The good news here for the Phillies is Kathy will not take advantage of the situation by filing a lawsuit. They phoned and apologized to her for the mishap on Tuesday, and offered her tickets to a future game.

As for the Phanatic, he apparently “feels terrible about what happened.”
