I had no idea that James Dolan ordering the ejection of Charles Oakley from Madison Square Garden last year was new news, but apparently today that’s what we have. Surely, you remember this incident from a random Wednesday night regular season game in February last year that happened to be on national TV. Charles Oakley was asked to leave his seat, he got pissed, more security rushed over, all the sudden hands are being thrown and Oak is getting dragged down the tunnel.
All along, I thought we knew that Dolan was behind this. The Knicks said Oakley was “acting belligerently” during the game, so Dolan got his goons to toss him and that’s where the incident began.
So we knew Dolan made the call, but this new video suggests that Oakley was just minding his own business before security came over. Dolan apparently just wanted him out there for whatever reason.
Moments before the beloved Knick’s confrontation broadcast on national television, Dolan is seen chatting with a security official and then giving him a signal, Oakley’s attorney Douglas Wigdor writes in new papers filed Thursday.
“From the moment he takes his seat Mr. Oakley can be seen laughing and casually interacting with fans. Nowhere is there evidence that he was acting as belligerently as (Dolan and MSG) falsely claim,” papers submitted by Wigdor read.
“During a stoppage in play, Defendant Dolan can be seen summoning a security guard and speaking to him at length. … Within seconds of Defendant Dolan’s gesture, the security guard gathered other security personnel who proceeded to surround Mr. Oakley and throw him out of the Arena.”
Then after everything finished, Dolan gave his boys a thumbs up. What a villain.
