Poor Matt Harvey. All he wanted to be was Derek Jeter, moving from A-list woman to A-list woman while enjoying a Hall of Fame career. Now he’s a washed up ace who’s been demoted to bullpen duty after bombing three consecutive outings.
Pitching out of the pen, however, isn’t going to stop him from having a good time. Per Ian Mohr of Page Six, Harvey was out in Beverly Hills last Thursday before the Mets started a three-game series in San Diego. He was apparently “stumbling around” but “sober”:
Harvey attended the Thursday opening of hot Avra Beverly Hills, where guests included Halle Berry, Cindy Crawford, Ellen Pompeo and Selma Blair.
But a spy told us that Harvey was “out at the Avra opening stumbling around . . . He had to sit down at one point. He must have been so desperate to party, he came up from San Diego.”
Another guest said that among so many stars, “Nobody knew who Matt was,” but, “he was sober.”
In case you are wondering, Beverly Hills to San Diego is a two and a half hour drive without traffic. Harvey pitched the following night and allowed served up a home run out of the pen, so yeah, this isn’t the best look for the former Dark Knight but he’s probably used to that by now.
He had a similar occurrence last year when he was reportedly out until 4am before skipping a game due to a migraine.
Update: Mets GM Sandy Alderson was questioned about the story, he’s clearly over it.
Asked if he's upset about a Page Six report that had Matt Harvey out partying in Los Angeles the night before pitching in San Diego, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said:
"Usually I get upset if a report is unexpected. So I guess the short answer is no."
