Cubs Coach Tosses His Coffee At An Umpire After Kris Bryant Took A Pitch To The Head
This was the pitch that Kris Bryant took to the head this afternoon forcing him to leave the game. A straight dome shot from German Marquez that had Bryant stumbling like Tom Savage heading back into a game after his 3rd concussion. I’m still not sure how he didn’t go down immediately. Hopefully he ends up fine and nothing serious comes out of this.
After the headshot, Cubs coaches rightfully had some questions about the intent of the pitch. You pretty much have to after your star player takes one like that. I don’t know of a history between the Rockies and Cubs off the top of my head, but you have to protect your guys
So they were upset and it ended with maybe our first coffee-related ejection from a baseball coach ever. As surprising as it sounds, I think this might be the first time we’ve seen a cup of coffee thrown at an ump. Thanks to Cubs assistant hitting coach, Andy Haines, we now have this visual.
I’m going to have to dig into some research for this. There’s no way Earl Weaver or Bobby Cox never brought coffee into the mix while arguing some balls and strikes.
