I’m not going to make the easy joke that the only way Mississippi State could ever get a national championship trophy is if they broke into Alabama’s athletic facility to steal one of theirs. I won’t do it. Surely, there’s a deeper reason that these four MSU frat bros were meddling around Mal Moore after 2am looking to steal some memorabilia.
First, let’s get to the details. Via the Tuscaloosa News:
Four Mississippi State University students were arrested after police said they broke into the Mal Moore Athletic Facility and stole memorabilia last week.
The University of Alabama declined to answer questions about the investigation Wednesday, including what was stolen and whether the items have been recovered.
According to court documents, the four young men were caught on surveillance video breaking into the complex at 1102 Coliseum Drive at 2:17 a.m. the morning of April 4. A UAPD officer wrote in charging documents that items stolen included “various items of memorabilia from within.”
UA Police obtained warrants to charge each suspect Friday. Documents indicate each was arrested on a felony third-degree burglary charge Monday and released the same day on $7,500 bond.
So we don’t know exactly what was taken yet, just “various items of memorabilia from within.” It could be anything from a national championship to one of Saban’s Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies, which is definitely considered memorabilia in Bama.
The main point here is that SEC football remains undefeated. There’s just nothing else like it. You just don’t see four dudes making a trip to another college town a state away in order to steal memorabilia from their athletic facility in the Big 12 or ACC. Maybe the Big Ten, but it’s rare. These stories happen all the time in the SEC. It just means more.
