The word on Tim Tebow back in February was that he could start 2018 in Double-A if he had a “decent” showing in spring training (via FanRag’s Jon Heyman):

It’s interesting to note that two of the most fascinating figures this spring are on minor-league deals. That would be Shohei Ohtani and Tim Tebow, the former Heisman winner. Word is, if Tebow has a decent spring, the Mets would love to place him at Double-A Binghamton. Of course, if he doesn’t, he’s a monster draw in Florida, at Port St. Lucie.

How did that play out? Well, he had 18 at bats and logged one hit and one walk while striking out 11 times, so yeah, not exactly “decent.” He also didn’t impress in High A ball last season slashing .231/.307/.356, so a ticket back to Florida seems to be the move here, right?

Nope! The Mets are letting him start in Double-A Binghamton anyway according to the NY Post’s Mike Puma:

Suffice it to say Tebow is going to see some of the best prospects in baseball in Double A as the Eastern League has a number of top up-and-coming arms (Mitch Keller, Shane Bieber, Justus Sheffield, Dillon Tate, etc.). He’ll probably tank, and the Mets will get him up to the majors anyway because that’s how this seems to be trending.
