Meet Kailani Craine — Australian Figure Skater

Say whatever you want about the Winter Olympics but just know that figure skating does, and always will, play to the national audience. That’s why it seems like it’s been on in primetime every night since the Olympics started, although that might be because Johnny and Tara are broadcasting wrecking crew. But basically, it’s the gymnastics of the winter games. They become the darlings of the Olympics.

So today we’ll meet Australian figure skater Kailani Craine. She’s not set to compete until next week, but I feel like we need to finish the week strong with our Olympic girls. She’s only 19 and if I had to guess, she’s set to be a star. Whether it happens these games or the next, I think you’ll hear about her again.

Kailani’s Bio:

She began skating in 2007 at age eight at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

She first tried the sport at a birthday party.

During the high season she trains 25 hours a week in Los Angeles, CA, United States of America. In the low season she trains 20 hours a week in Sydney and Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

Some more fun facts:

  • She’s from Newcastle, Australia
  • Hobbies: Reading, snowboarding, sketching designs for her skating costumes, going to the beach, dining at restaurants, Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
  • Her idols: Japanese figure skater Mao Asada, US figure skater Evan Lysacek.
