If the Indiana Pacers didn’t exist, I’m not sure Lance Stephenson would still be in The Association. Born Ready hit five different teams (Hornets, Clips, T’Wolves, Grizzlies, Pelicans) after his first stint with the Pacers, and obviously none of those teams were willing to “Let Lance Be Lance”.
But fortunately for everyone the Pacers seem to love the guy and encourage the wackiness he brings on the court. That was on full display tonight as Lance fired up Bankers Life Fieldhouse with electrifying passes.
Here he is forcing a steal, dropping a behind-the-back assist, and celebrating with a gallop:
This pass didn’t even lead to an assist, but it’s noteworthy for the bizarre fall to the floor:
Shame on all five franchises that suppressed the ball of energy that is Born Ready. Lance noted those teams failed to use him properly in an Indy Star article:
“Some teams, I’d only get three dribbles, or I’d have to stand in the corner,” he said. ” (Pacers coaches) let me be myself. They don’t guard me, or tell me not to do stuff. If I play freely, if coaches let me play the game, you’ll see the talent in me.”
