Depressed. Angry. Anxious. Lost. I’m assuming Seattle Mariners fans have felt a mixture of those emotions after Shohei Ohtani’s decision to play ball with the LA Angels. Ohtani to Seattle was supposed to be a lock. Jerry Dipoto said he was bringing his A-game, and the M’s have a history with Asian players (Ichiro, obviously).
Of course, it didn’t happen, and now all the M’s have are their aging (and pricey) offensive stars, old-ass King Felix, the hope of James Paxton not breaking, and a somewhat barren system. Not very fun. But what is somewhat interesting is the prospect of Dee Gordon, noted pretty good second baseman, moving to center field.
Flash has never played the position in the big leagues, so the Mariners are banking that the speedster will be able to pull off the transition. Dee shared his first day of outfield training on Monday via Instagram. This should take Ohtani off the minds of fans for a bit:
