You’d assume the MLB would assign only the best umpires they have for Opening Day — god forbid we endure an umpshow on the first day of a six month journey — but nope, we have Jerry Layne out there calling balls and strikes for this Yankees-Rays game. He’s so special behind the dish that he has his very own scouting report:
