Adam Schefter signing an extension with ESPN normally isn’t something that would get BC’s attention. You know, of course the WWL wants to keep their star insider around and make sure he doesn’t go back to a competitor like NFL Network. Pretty standard stuff.
However, there is something quite interesting in Schefty’s new deal: he’ll be working as a sideline reporter during some NBA games (when his schedule permits).
According to SI’s Richard Deitsch, Schefty’s become an “NBA junkie” who knows every roster after getting into Daily Fantasy Sports (the devil). But he apparently has no plans on going full-Woj and taking over:
“I want to make it very clear in no way am I looking to infringe on the turf of someone like Doris Burke, Rachel Nichols, J.A. Adande, Marc Stein or anyone else. They do a great job. That’s not what this is about. I could never do their jobs. This is just me doing an assignment where it will be 100 percent fun to me. My job is great but it is also intense and relentless.”
To be honest, we all know if Schefty gets a juicy NBA story he’s dropping that news no matter what. He’s wired for this stuff.
Honestly all I want from this is Schefty forcing himself to take an important NFL call on live television instead of reporting on a Derrick Rose injury.
Live television and Adam Schefter is on the phone. Amazing. NFL Free Agency. pic.twitter.com/yYk81kVahn
