We know a lot of you guys are still down in the dumps about Michelle Jenneke bombing her 100-meter hurdles this morning. But don’t worry, we have another Australian you can get behind in sprinter Ella Nelson.
Ella, who suffered two hamstring injuries prior to the Olympics, ran a 22.66 in the first round of the 200-meter event, which was good enough to advance to the semis (which take place this afternoon).
The Sydney Morning Herald caught up with Ella after Round 1, and it sounds like she’s feeling pretty confident:
“I am so happy just to have completed that race, I haven’t raced since April so coming in here I was super nervous. I had to really think about my race plan last night and go through the motions,” she said.
“I kind of forgot out there, I ran a bit scared so I am definitely going to improve on that for the semi. I think I could have won that heat.”
