Yulia Efimova is the Russian breaststroke swimmer at the Rio Olympics that has failed two doping tests, but she’s still being allowed to compete in the Games. She’s also the swimmer that Lilly King threw shade at after Efimova wagged a #1 finger after a preliminary race.
Efimova faced a lifetime ban back in March. Suddenly she’s swimming in Rio. Of course King isn’t happy.
According to the LA Times:
Last month, the International Swimming Federation announced Efimova’s Olympic ban as part of Russia’s doping scandal. She was one of seven Russian swimmers barred from the Games who had either failed doping tests or were named in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s investigation into state-sponsored doping.
Efimova, 24, previously served a 16-month suspension for doping and earlier this year failed a test for meldonium, a banned substance, though the result was overturned.
Efimova posted a video of herself wearing a “Champ” shirt on July 26. It looks like we have an old fashioned Olympics Cold War scenario on our hands.
