I was in L.A. last week with Podcast Paul (@EidePaul) for the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year Awards and that’s where we talked to a bevy of elite athletes who won Gatorade high school player of the year awards back in the day. It was your run-of-the-mill event where one minute you’re interviewing Matthew Stafford and the next minute you’re chatting with Cam Newton.
We also met the ladies, specifically Olympic volleyball gold medal hopeful April Ross (teammate is Kerri Walsh Jennings) and the softball legend Jennie Finch (@JennieFinch).
The ladies couldn’t have been nicer to a fat balding guy like myself. They recognize that I’m heading towards the twilight of my athletic career. Jennie can tell that I throw the ball around the yard for 5 to 10 minutes. April understands that the only jumping I do is into a pool – with a beer waiting on the ledge to recharge my batteries. April has no idea what it’s like to go on a Taco Bell binge at 1:30 a.m. after drinking double IPAs at the neighbors house — after blogging for 12 hours & stressing over pageviews.
It was also nice of April (@AprilRossBeach) to tackle my body parts on the Brazil beach question. She handled it like a pro.
I’m sure both couldn’t wait to get away from me.
