Over a week ago, the Detroit Lions announced that they’d be debuting a cheerleading team for the 2016 season. Their reasoning for adding a team after all these years? Thirsty fans wanted it, basically.
Auditions are set to begin this weekend, and the Lions have turned to a familiar face to judge the first round of competition — Kelly Stafford.
That’s right, Matthew Stafford’s wife, who was a cheerleader at Georgia, will be lending her services to the Lions. She announced the news on Instagram:
So excited that I get the chance to help create the first @detroitlionsnfl cheerleading team! I will be judging a portion of the tryouts.. good luck to everyone trying out!! I know y’all will do great! I am so thrilled it’s finally happening!
Fun fact: Two years ago, the Lions were proud to be one of the teams without a cheerleading squad.
