At 21-33, things haven’t been going well for the San Diego Padres this season — and the organization hit peak dysfunction Wednesday when team executive Ron Fowler called the team “miserable failures.”
On the plus side, those failures responded to the call out by dropping 14 runs in a blowout victory over the Mariners. As an added bonus, fans even got to witness the best thing they’ve seen all season: Melvin Upton cracking his bat over his knee after striking out:

Suffice it to say, the sound of that got the crowd buzzing. They probably enjoyed it more than the rare offensive outburst.
