If you’re a head coach who’s going to do something stupid on the field, you should at least get your money’s worth.
During an Ivy League lacrosse match between Princeton and Brown last Saturday, Tigers head coach Chris Bates got himself in trouble after elbowing an opposing player who was jogging off the field.
As you can see from the clip below, Bates gears up for the shot — right in front of his own players — but really doesn’t connect:

The NY Daily News reports Princeton let Bates go after an internal investigation into the incident:
“Following a University review of an incident in the men’s lacrosse game at Brown on April 2, Chris Bates is no longer employed by Princeton University,” the school said in a statement.
Bates’ profile is still up on the Princeton website and includes this golden introduction:
Chris Bates, whose calmness and strength serve as the bedrock of the Princeton men’s lacrosse program, is in his seventh year as the head coach of the Tigers.
Love it. He also earned a degree in psychology so maybe he was just trying to psyche the dude out.
